In My Blood It Runs
A film and a multi-year impact campaign
'In My Blood It Runs was shot in Mparntwe (Alice Springs), Sandy Bore Homeland and Borroloola Community, Northern Territory over three and a half years. However the director, Maya Newell, has been making films alongside Arrernte Elders and families for over a decade preceding this film. In My Blood It Runs rose organically from those relationships, and the film team want to acknowledge the deep trust and support from these core partner organisations who backed the telling of this story. This collaborative approach used on this film is not ‘new’ but draws from a long line of First Nations initiatives, organisations, filmmakers work both within Australia and internationally who have fought for the right to have agency over their own narratives for a long time. Some of the core pillars of our approach include; partnership with those represented, a team of Advisors, consent as an ongoing process, formal recognition of Traditional Owners of the land we filmed, meaningful and ongoing consultation, shared profit with those represented and a team structure that has equal First Nations and non-First Nations filmmakers as the core creatives.
The film has an adjacent impact campaign driven by our Arrernte and Garrwa advisors and their vision for change.'
